HELLO, dahlings! Welcome to another Fangirl Friday and this time, gracious me, my little shiny plumblossoms, we are graced by the presence of none other than Gail Carriger (hard “g” in Carriger), the award-winning and NYT bestselling author whose fabulously attired and deliciously quirky characters inhabit her paranormal steampunk universe.
I am a huge fan of her work not only because I dig steampunk but also because I love its tongue-in-cheekiness with regard to Victorian mores, AND amidst her panoply of characters are those who are LGBT+. They are beautifully wrought and eminently human (even those who are paranormal), and I find myself missing them when I finish one of her books.
Her bio puts it best: Miss Carriger’s novels are urbane fantasies mixed with steampunk comedies of manners.

I wrote it all down,
All the hate, anger,
All the pain, emotional drain.
I wrote in ink on paper,
As if that made it less real.
I included the ecstasy,
And all the joy.
Then I folded it as small
As I possibly could,
So it would take less space.
I hid it in a box,
Away in some forgotten place.
The paper keeps the memory
That I was unable to truly bear,
Stored away from having to care.
She flies throughout the silent night
Above the shimmering snow of white
Bedecked in the colors of Christmas glory
Spreading the news, her mistletoe story
Of lovers who wait in an aura of bliss
Hoping to steal that one special kiss
As she quickly drops her petals of green
Then quietly vanishes, contented, unseen

so this time of year it is so hard for many people. I often feel like it is the worst because of the expectations we are put under to be nice to people who we can’t stand the rest of the year. Or the fact that we are separate from the ones that we love and have no way to remedy this. Sometimes it is just the weather changes and the sickness that seems to linger about making it even more difficult to be social. I just wanted to reach out and say that you are not alone. If this is a difficult time for you, reach out. There is always someone who you matter too… Whether you know it or not. And in the holidays we some times forget about telling the ones around us how much we care. For some the inner voice is not a kind thing. Trust me when I say that you are not alone. ❤
Ok after a true butt load of soul searching… And research in to branding and such… I have decided that I will still do my children’s books and my poetry volumes under my given name (Patricia Harris) and I will be releasing my more adult stories and novellas as Serena Mossgraves.

Ok remember I said I was half mad….here is another slice of my mental world.
Cousins Jesse and Daisy are not prepared when the “thunder egg” Jesse has found turns out to be a dragon egg that is about to hatch.
A cute Tween book. It has adventure and a villain who is scary enough that even the adult readers will no be disappointed. The characters are rich and the descriptions are decent. This is the first book in the series and it allows you to grow with Emerald the dragon and her two preteen keepers. Very magical and a lot of fun to read. I highly recommend.
Daisy Johanssen, a part time file clerk half demon is so much more…. She’s Hel’s liaison between the eldrich community and the mundane authorities. This is the first in a fun trio of books. I just finished book two(Autumn bones). This first one feels like more of a young adult story. It has a definitely fun upbeat main character. The writer is really good at describing the action. I would highly recommend it.
*a side note : the second book has more sexual content but nothing overly graphic. There’s another series by the same author that is more graphic. I really enjoyed it as well.
