Scheduled hopes.

So… In the past I have been awful about updating this blog. I am hoping that if I do a bit of a schedule it may help. So I decided to post my plan… Please be patient with me as I may still lapse.

Monday : poems. That will be the day when I share any poetry that I feel like sharing.

Tuesday : teasers. I have a children’s chapter book that I am working on currently, and Serena has her second book in her zombie apocalypse series. This is when I will be sharing teasers and updates on the work we are doing.

Wednesday : webcomics! This is going to be where I discuss webcomics and perhaps other fandoms.

Thursday : Reviews. Both tech and books. I am a geek who reads a lot. I really need to start doing a review segment on here.

Friday : writing helpers. This is where I will be talking about the technical difficulties that come with writing.

I am not scheduling weekends. And I may end up posting random other than the schedule… Cause life. You get it, I am quite sure. Also I may be less accurate to the schedule in November. I am doing the pad challenge and Serena is doing Nanowrimo. So I don’t know how much extra time for blogging I will have. But I will be posting. Just figure it will be less than I am hoping for.

What is webcomics?

Well webcomics are amazing comics that have been posted on the web. It really is that simple.  Years ago I was following nearly two hundred separate comics.  Then I lost access to a computer,  and mobile phones were too hard to read on .

Some have ended. I am still sorting through my links. I am current on two… Working on a  third.

Go check them out and tell me what you think . I hope that we can discuss the merits of the various webcomics and perhaps I can enlighten you as to some great comics,  or be enlightened by you.

 

Finally I am posting poetry

Ok, I admit part of the delay was my addiction to webcomics. I have been without a computer for about five years. I can’t read them on my phone. So I am trying to catch up with my favorite ones. Some I am finding no longer update (girlswithslingshots being one). Some are harder to update than others. I will attempt to do a post in the near future about my favorite webcomics and why. Just let me get caught up first.

I, so far have done a poem for each of the prompts that were given for Inktober. Then the prompt Angular came up yesterday. Weak…. Was late due to webcomics. Angular because I see nothing poetic in that. I’m sorry but I don’t see myself ever writing poems about angular. So I chose a different prompt. The prompt for the second one is cry.

I will be doing today’s inktober post in a little bit. I have the art done, and I have the writing area ready. I just need to eat something and come back to the writing.

Inktober and zombie review

Yes… I know. I owe y’all two poems. I got lost in girlswithslingshots.com trying to get caught up. I am going to get to writing after i eat. That is going to be a later post. For now here’s my art for today. The prompt was Angular.

One of the books that I got at the library was Zombies hate Stuff by Greg Stones.

It was incredibly whimsical and fun. I actually recommend it, and so does my teenager who is all about zombies. The art is eye-catching and it is a fun little art book.

A day at the local library.

So I did not get today’s poem done… I spent a day with my daughter and took the bus to the local library. I managed to do the inktober art.

Today the prompt was weak. The first thing that came to mind was eggshells. Sharp but easily broken.

I will be posting today’s poem tomorrow with tomorrow’s inktober art and poem.

Also due to the trip to the library I will be doing at least one book review post each month from here out.

Immortal poetry

I am blessed to be friends with so many wonderful writers. Occasionally I can even get the chance to read their books first. This was one of those times.

Immortal by Deedra Mosley will be releasing on Amazon June 19th. It is an incredible poetic journey filled with prose and short poems. Lovely art illustrates the book giving the journey a more comfortable feel.

I am picky about poetry. I don’t always like the more prose style pieces, but I really enjoyed these.

Villains 

      First off,  I apologize for being a day late in posting. The headache monster visited yesterday,  so I got little of my work accomplished. 

      Villains are tricky.  We as writers often see the villain as a tool,  two dimensional concept of evil…as a reader though I am here to tell you that is the end of a story.  Even worse than plot holes,  a two dimensional villain is enough to ruin an otherwise great story. 

       I have a sure fire way of testing my villains.  I give them flaws,  make them as realistic as I can. Then I imagine them in town and let the mental movie unfold… I as I am watching ask myself three questions… 

1) Is the character sympathetic?  A villain who we can sympathize with will make the story more interesting.  Also I am one who thinks that the story should leave the reader wondering if they are happy with the villains defeat. 

2) Is there a way to defeat the villain?  Though I think that the villains defeat should raise questions about how the reader feels about it,  defeat is usually in the life of a villain. And a overpowering villain is often no fun for the hero… Unless the story is not supposed to get the happy ending. 

3) what are the traits that are showing up most with your villain?  Has s he/ she got flaws or traits that you should pay closer attention to? A good villain often has fears,  and accomplishments that they are proud of.  This makes a far more rounded character. Villains are still characters,  and the story is best when you treat them as such! 

Audience 

          Who is my audience?  As an author there is not a day that goes by that I am not asking myself this question.  I have, I think come to a decision on it. My children’s books: the audience is fairly obvious.  Children.  I really write them for my daughter (and now my grandson).  Which is why I believe that the third bedtime stories will be mid grade. The first two were stories written for her when she was small. The third started for a preteen. (And now she is helping me write it.  She was suggesting ideas for the story and is looking forward to hear it when it is done.  She refused me reading it until then.) But I write more than just children’s books.  

        My poetry I have always written for me. So do I really have an audience for it?  Yes,  and no.  It is always going to be how I cope with the world… It is more that then it is written for a particular audience. That being said,  the reason why I published it is because my coping mechanisms can possibly help someone else who may be in a bad place. Or not,  I am not sure it matters there.  My poetry is the clearest view inside of my soul. To tell the truth I publish it because I can.  I have lost so much of my poetry over the years… This is the way of preserving it digitally so I will not lose anymore. 

        Last but not least,  there is Serena’s stories. Anything that I write that is adult in nature will be published under Serena Mossgraves.  Currently that seems to be horror.  I am not sure if it all will be… I just know that I will not be doing erotica… It embarrasses me to write it.  So I figure her audience will be adults,  preferably who enjoy what I write.  

          All seems simple enough.  I only hope that I am able to create a story that someone likes.
