Kenny Rogers – Buy me a Rose

Lyrics
He works hard to give her all he thinks she wants
A three car garage, her own credit cards
He pulls in late to wake her up with a kiss good night
If he could only read her mind, she’d say

Buy me a rose, call me from work
Open a door for me, what would it hurt
Show me you love me by the look in your eyes
These are the little things I need the most in my life

Now the days have grown to years of feeling all alone
And she can’t help but wonder what she’s doing wrong
Cause lately she’d try anything to turn his head
Would it make a difference if she said

Buy me a rose, call me from work
Open a door for me, what would it hurt
Show me you love me by the look in your eyes
These are the little things I need the most in my life

And the more that he lives the less that he tries
To show her the love that he holds inside
And the more that she gives the more that he sees
This is a story of you and me

So I bought you a rose on the way home from work
To open the door to a heart that I hurt
And I hope you notice this look in my eyes
Cause I’m gonna make things right
For the rest of your life
I’m gonna hold you tonight
Do all those little things
For the rest of your life.

My 2 cents

This one is hard, mostly because I think that we are all guilty of the ignorance in the song. We get busy with life and our own stuff and let things fall by the wayside. But it goes both ways. Communication is the most important thing in any relationship. She should speak up, but he should notice when she is not happy too.

Melanie Martinez – Sippy Cup

Lyrics

(Chorus)
Blood still stains when the sheets are washed
Sex don’t sleep when the lights are off
Kids are still depressed when you dress them up
And syrup is still syrup in a sippy cup
He’s still dead when you’re done with the bottle
Of course it’s a corpse that you keep in the cradle
Kids are still depressed when you dress them up
Syrup is still syrup in a sippy cup

(Verse 1)
Blood money, blood money
How did you afford this ring that I love, honey?
“Just another shift at the drug company, ”
He doesn’t think I’m that f**ing dumb does he?
It doesn’t matter what you pull up to your home
We know what goes on inside
You call that a** your own, we call that silicone
Silly girl with silly boys

Sippy cup, s-s-sippy cup, in a sippy cup, sut sippy cup
In a sippy cup, in a sippy cup, in a sippy cup, in a sippy cup

(Verse 2)
Pill diet, pill diet, if they give you a new pill then you will buy it
If they say to kill yourself, then you will try it
All the makeup in the world, won’t make you less insecure
You got weights in your pockets, when you go to the doctor’s
Your favorite candy’s cotton, that’s why all your teeth are rotten
Silly girl with silly boys

Sippy cup, s-s-sippy cup, in a sippy cup, sut sippy cup
In a sippy cup, in a sippy cup, in a sippy cup, in a sippy cup

(Chorus)
Blood still stains when the sheets are washed
Sex don’t sleep when the lights are off
Kids are still depressed when you dress them up
And syrup is still syrup in a sippy cup

My 2 cents

This song has a few layers. Each of them speak to my damaged little heart.

One.

It speaks about hiding the pain in overlooked places. Who doesn’t get that ?

Two.

It takes a close look at falseness. “All the makeup in the world, won’t make you less insecure” Again it is hiding but it is the false nature you are hiding. That need to not be seen.

The video is amazing. And I really enjoy the message in the song.

Halsey – Bad At Love

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Got a boy back home in Michigan
And he tastes like Jack when I’m kissing him
So I told him that I never really liked his friends
Now he’s gone and he’s calling me a bitch again
There’s a guy that lives in the garden state
And he told me that we’d make it ’til we graduate
So I told him that the music would be worth the wait
But he wants me in the kitchen with a dinner plate

[Pre-Chorus]
I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe that we’re meant to be
But jealousy, jealousy, jealousy, jealousy get the best of me
Look, I don’t mean to frustrate, but I
Always make the same mistakes, yeah
Always make the same mistakes ’cause

[Chorus]
I’m bad at love (Ooh-ooh)
But you can’t blame me for tryin’
You know I’d be lyin’ sayin’
You were the one (Ooh-ooh)
That could finally fix me
Lookin’ at my history
I’m bad at love

[Verse 2]
Got a girl with California eyes
And I thought that she could really be the one this time
But I never got the chance to make her mine
Because she fell in love with little thin white lines
London girl with an attitude
We never told no one, but we look so cute
Both got way better things to do
But I always think about it when I’m riding through

[Pre-Chorus]
I believe, I believe, I believe, I believe that I’m in too deep
And jealousy, jealousy, jealousy, jealousy get the best in me
Look, I don’t mean to frustrate, but I
Always make the same mistakes, yeah
Always make the same mistakes ’cause

[Chorus]
I’m bad at love (Ooh-ooh)
But you can’t blame me for tryin’
You know I’d be lyin’ sayin’
You were the one (Ooh-ooh)
That could finally fix me
Lookin’ at my history
I’m bad at love
[Post-Chorus]
Oh, you know, you know, you know, you know
I’m bad at love (Ooh-ooh)
I’m bad at love (Ooh-ooh)

[Bridge]
I know that you’re afraid I’m gonna walk away
Each time the feeling fades
Each time the feeling fades
I know that you’re afraid I’m gonna walk away
Each time the feeling fades

[Chorus]
You know I’m bad at love (Ooh-ooh)
But you can’t blame me for tryin’
You know I’d be lyin’ sayin’
You were the one (Ooh-ooh)
That could finally fix me
Lookin’ at my history
I’m bad at love (Ooh-ooh)

[Post-Chorus]
Oh, you know, you know, you know, you know
I’m bad at love (Ooh-ooh)
Oh, oh

My 2 cents

Ok… I was so tired this morning and struggling with focus. I asked my family for songs to discuss. The boyfriend suggested Weird Al Yankovic – Asshole Son. Daughter suggested Grandson – Darkside. These were topics I was not ready to approach. This song started playing in my head. I think it speaks to a part of each of us… Making the same mistakes in love, falling into patterns. Simply falling for the wrong person because they are that spark we want in the moment, the lies we tell ourselves because we want to believe.

Metallica – One

Lyrics –
[Instrumental Intro]

[Verse 1]
I can’t remember anything
Can’t tell if this is true or a dream
Deep down inside I feel to scream
This terrible silence stops with me
Now that the war is through with me
I’m waking up, I cannot see
That there’s not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now

[Chorus]
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, wake me

[Verse 2]
Back in the womb it’s much too real
In pumps life that I must feel
But can’t look forward to reveal
Look to the time when I’ll live
Fed through the tube that sticks in me
Just like a wartime novelty
Tied to machines that make me be
Cut this life off from me

[Chorus]
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, wake me

[Short Instrumental Break]

[Chorus]
Now the world is gone, I’m just one
Oh, God help me
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, help me

[Instrumental Break]

[Verse 3]
Darkness imprisoning me
All that I see, absolute horror
I cannot live, I cannot die
Trapped in myself, body my holding cell
Landmine has taken my sight
Taken my speech, taken my hearing
Taken my arms, taken my legs
Taken my soul, left me with life in Hell

[Instrumental Outro]

My 2 cents –

This song always resonated with me and brought up the futility of war. Dying for a cause that is not your own. A pacifist at heart, I am well aware that there are causes worth standing up for, I just think that most things can be handled without violence. I can also empathize with the young man in the song. It is all too easy to feel trapped inside one’s self. To feel like no one hears what you are saying. For the time period that the song was released in, this song was incredible. It had so much more of a deep thought process than most realize.

Eygpt Central – White Rabbit

Lyrics

“White Rabbit”

Your magic white rabbit
Has left it’s writing on the wall
We follow like Alice
And just keep diving down the hole

You can’t fix your broken promise
Our ties have come undone
I will not be used to be battered and abused
It’s the reason why I choose to cut my losses
Your lies fool no one
Your magic white rabbit
Your white room straight jacket

Your magic white rabbit
Has left it’s writing on the wall
We follow like Alice
And just keep diving down the hole
We’re falling and we’re losing control
You’re pulling us and dragging us down this dead end road
We follow like Alice
And just keep diving down the hole

You can’t offer your poison to me
In your kingdom of filth
White Rabbit
Straight jacket

Your magic white rabbit
Has left it’s writing on the wall
We follow like Alice
And just keep diving down the hole
We’re falling and we’re losing control
You’re pulling us and dragging us down this dead end road
We follow like Alice
And just keep diving down the hole

I won’t be pushed aside
I will be heard
I will get what I want
What I deserve

I won’t be pushed aside
I will be heard
I will get what I want
What I deserve

We’re falling and we’re losing control
You’re pulling us and dragging us down this dead end road

Your magic white rabbit
Has left it’s writing on the wall
We follow like Alice
And just keep diving down the hole
We’re falling and we’re losing control
You’re pulling us and dragging us down this dead end road

Your magic white rabbit
Has left it’s writing on the wall
We follow like Alice
And just keep diving down the hole
Diving down the hole

My 2 cents

This song is about reclaiming your power. Saying that you are not going to be used, abused. No I am not following. That is a powerful message when you feel lost.

Tuesday Tunes

Today I am doing a two fer. Technically. After all, the two songs are the same, one is a modernized cover of the other.

Let’s start with the original…

Mr. Sandman by the Chordettes

Lyrics

Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Make him the cutest that I’ve ever seen (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Give him two lips like roses and clover (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Then tell him that his lonesome nights are over
Sandman, I’m so alone (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Don’t have nobody to call my own (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Please turn on your magic beam
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream
Make him the cutest that I’ve ever seen
Give him the word that I’m not a rover
Then tell him that his lonesome nights are over
Sandman, I’m so alone
Don’t have nobody to call my own
Please turn on your magic beam
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream
Mr. Sandman (yes) bring us a dream
Give him a pair of eyes with a “come-hither” gleam
Give him a lonely heart like Pagliacci
And lots of wavy hair like Liberace
Mr Sandman, someone to hold (someone to hold)
Would be so peachy before we’re too old
So please turn on your magic beam
Mr Sandman, bring us, please, please, please
Mr Sandman, bring us a dream

And the cover…

Mr. Sandman by SYML

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream
Make her the cutest that I’ve ever seen
Give her two lips like roses and clover
And tell her that her lonely nights are over

[Refrain]
Sandman, I’m so alone
Don’t have nobody to call my own
Please turn on your magic beam
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream

[Verse 2]
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream
Make her the cutest that I’ve ever seen
Give her the word that I’m not a rover
And tell her that her lonely nights are over

[Refrain]
Oh, Sandman, I’m so alone
Don’t have nobody to call my own
So please turn on your magic beam
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream

[Verse 3]
Oh, Sandman, bring us a dream
Make her the cutest that I’ve ever seen
Give her two lips like roses and clover
And tell her that her lonely nights are over

[Refrain]
Oh, Sandman, I’m so alone
Don’t have nobody to call my own
So please turn on your magic beam
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream

[Outro]
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream
Make her the cutest that I’ve ever seen
Give her two lips like roses and clover
And tell her that her lonely nights are over

My two cents

As you can see there is not much difference between the lyrics. The difference is in how it is arranged. I used to love the original when I was a teen. It was a cute song with an upbeat melody. The new version is slightly better though. Syml is a male singer with a voice that could be female or male. Which means that the song can feel like it is good for cishet males or for the more lgbtq people as well. The cover definitely feels more modern without taking away from the song. I like that.

Billie Eilish – All Good Girls Go to Hell

Lyrics –

My Lucifer is lonely
Standing there, killing time
Can’t commit to anything but a crime
Peter’s on vacation, an open invitation
Animals, evidence
Pearly gates look more like a picket fence
Once you get inside ’em
Got friends but can’t invite them
Hills burn in California
My turn to ignore ya
Don’t say I didn’t warn ya
All the good girls go to hell
‘Cause even God herself has enemies
And once the water starts to rise
And heaven’s out of sight
She’ll want the devil on her team
My Lucifer is lonely
Look at you needing me
You know I’m not your friend without some greenery
Walk in wearing fetters
Peter should know better
Your cover up is caving in
Man is such a fool
Why are we saving him?
Poisoning themselves now
Begging for our help, wow!
Hills burn in California
My turn to ignore ya
Don’t say I didn’t warn ya
All the good girls go to hell
‘Cause even God herself has enemies
And once the water starts to rise
And heaven’s out of sight
She’ll want the devil on her team
My Lucifer is lonely
There’s nothing left to save now
My god is gonna owe me
There’s nothing left to save now

My two cents –

This artist surprises me. She is really talented, and her music appeals to the darkness in my soul. The video for this is cinematic and marvelous. The lyrics are pointed and speak so much of the world today.

Tuesday Tunes

Welcome back all of my lovely friends. Today’s song is a very deep and fun verse.

Dollhouse by Melanie Martinez

Lyrics :

Hey girl, open the walls, play with your dolls
We’ll be a perfect family
When you walk away, it’s when we really play
You don’t hear me when I say,
Mom, please wake up
Dad’s with a slut, and your son is smoking cannabis
No one never listens, this wallpaper glistens
Don’t let them see what goes down in the kitchen
Places, places, get in your places
Throw on your dress and put on your doll faces
Everyone thinks that we’re perfect
Please don’t let them look through the curtains
Picture, picture, smile for the picture
Pose with your brother, won’t you be a good sister?
Everyone thinks that we’re perfect
Please don’t let them look through the curtains
D-O-L-L-H-O-U-S-E
I see things that nobody else sees
(D-O-L-L-H-O-U-S-E
I see things that nobody else sees)
Hey…

My two cents :

I think that at some point each of us has had the moment where we hope that no one looks in the curtains. The outside world always sees only the superficial. Anything that is forced will never be comfortable. What do you make of this song? Do you like it? Why?

Tuesday tunes

So usually I choose one song. Which really works… But today I want something slightly different. Today I want to do a small group of songs. A playlist if you will. I am pansexual, and I have had relationships with both male and female. I don’t plan on putting the details up, and I don’t want to put the lyrics up for these. My opinion is going to be on the topic more than individual songs. The songs were chosen for this playlist purposely.

Too many of the so called lesbian love songs don’t sit right with me. To me a true love song should be good whether it is for a female or a male. These definitely have a female target, but it would work for either gender. Many, if sung by a different singer, would be made hetro.

I love that idea. The songs excite the heart in me. The poet who loves to see love in all of its facets. See lyrics are not gendered. The singer, the tempo it is sung at, these all what affects our, as listeners, perception of it. That is why some covers come across better to an individual ear than the original.

Everyone I have ever had in my life has a song that reminds me of them. Some songs I only listen to if I need to pull them from the mind, for good or ill. The first song on this list belongs to someone I once loved dearly. She hurt me because she was raw from another hurting her. Still I love her and I miss her, even if it hurt me to have her near. I will never wish her ill. It is the only song that is that meaningful for me.

I am just going to share the playlist from YouTube. If you can think of any that I missed… Let me know.

Playlist abuse

*Tw- please don’t listen to any of these songs if you are in a bad place.

Due to the nature of these I am not going to do links. This is by no means all of the songs of this nature, feel free to comment any that I have missed.
