Wild Wednesday/arsty fartsy

Okay today the topic is…a digital art piece I did. My daughter and I were discussing it. We could not decide if it was a landscape piece or not. She said that it was not. I think that it could be… So I figured it would be something to start a conversation with for my last week of Wednesday for the blog this month.

Well WordPress prompts ….

For me and my blog, the majority of these really stink…I found that I find some interesting prompts on Tumblr occasionally though. Do you have a place for writing prompts?

Wild Wednesday

Wild Wednesday!

So many topics…. what should I talk about?

It’s Sunday when I am doing the blog posts… and I find myself struggling to find a topic for the week. This week has been longer than usual for me… and we are going to be heading into a rough area of the year.

Why is that you might ask? Because of my birthday. It is the 13th of March. I struggle with my own birthday. The reason is that I honestly never expected to make it to 30… and I am going to be 48. I don’t know what to do with myself.

So I don’t know if I will be able to get the blog up for the week surrounding the 13th. I am already stressed out and struggling with my mental health.

I plan on trying to get it done… but I want to warn you that I am struggling with this one. That way if I don’t manage it no one is surprised. Yes, I do realize that I have a week before then… but I’m also starting to feel the quicksand of the birthday blues. So I am going to state the issue now and hope that I can overcome it by then.

Belated book Birthday

I am kinda late in posting this… Not Just Another Danny released on December 2nd. Fae Corps Publishing has been wonderful in the marketing of my book. (I just got all taken up and forgot my own blog, apologies)

Poetry for Darkness Screams

So those who follow me know that Fae Corps is just about to have a busy season. August 26th we are releasing the second edition of Andrew McDowell’s book Mystical Greenwood. And the submissions are in for Darkness Screams. I am busier than a one armed paper hanger…I wrote the above poem to put in the front of both volumes of Darkness Screams.

I will be able to return to posting here next week. thank you for your patience. (ps. Check the Fae Corps Blog tomorrow to see the covers for the next anthology!)

Blog Basics

I have been doing an Author spotlight for Fae Corps. It has given me the realization that some of the basics for blogging are not well known. We ask for a picture. Most of the time we don’t get it. We ask for a website…guess what? So it came to me that maybe I could help others by giving you what I have picked up in the time I have been running this blog.

  1. The first thing is that every entry should have a picture. The picture grabs the attention It gives a hook to your post.
  2. Make sure that you proofread your post. Typos do not encourage repeat readers.
  3. Try to keep a schedule. If possible at least four times a week, but if you cannot keep that then try for at least once a week.
  4. Think about what you would want to read. Try to keep from whining or complaining – no one wants to read that.
  5. Whenever possible include links. Example – My Books. Make it open in a new tab. you don’t want them to go off of your site completely.

Most of this is common sense. It really is hard to screw up blogging. However, some of it is also stuff you pick up. I started off treating my blog like a journal. It took me time. I also am terrible at keeping the schedule. Is the world gonna end if I fail to keep up? NO, but I may have a few readers who decide that I am not worth following. So I keep trying. If you are looking to get on as a spotlight on someone’s blog, or as a guest blogger, then I recommend trying to make sure that you provide them with as much information in what they ask for as possible. It makes it easier on them but it also makes you look good. That is the whole reason to do this, isn’t it?
