Writers

©2017 By Patricia Harris

We write because we must,
Lest insanity set in.
We write the snarls
Emotionally,
Lest the outside world
Cave in.

The words each a monster,
Deep inside our heads,
Tearing down our psyche
Demanding to be heard.

We write because
Without it,
We are but simply
Star dust.

Energy sapping Monsters

zoffttttlyyyy

With so much requiring our attention, this time of year is not always a productive time for us writers. Well at least in a personal sense. Between Nanowrimo and the November PAD challenges, and other writing, there is more than enough people looking for our attention. Add in normal Seasonal blues that many have, and it can be overwhelming.

Personally, I find myself an anxious mess about the amount I am expected to join in. I chose not to do Nano this year because of the amount of stuff I have going on in my personal life…still I am finding that other writers are looking for me to join. I am so glad that I have friends that include me. There is always something to be said for that.

I have been doing the PAD challenge. I also have managed to get a bit farther in Rust, Gore and the Junkyard Zombie.  I believe that 2018 will be a wonderful year for book releases. Many wonderful writers are doing Nano this year. I am cheering them on.
However, with all that I have going on, life is weighing heavy on this girl right now. It means that I am finding my spoon supply a lot smaller. Forgive me my sweet ones if I fail to post more that a couple times during the next two months. I will do my best to keep all my balls I am juggling in the air, but if one falls…I will just have to dust myself off and try some more.

November Pad challenge

Just wanted to let y’all know….I am doing the Pad Challenge. I will be sharing a few more of my poems in November than usual….keep an eye here!

Word Jazz

inspired by CabbagesandKings

Word Jazz
Not structured
Poetic improv

Pieced together
Thoughts, emotions,
Smiles and tears.

Word song,
Spilled soul
To paper
Spilled mind
To sight.

Eclectic,
And smooth.
Energetic,
Makes the heart move.

Rain

By Patricia Harris ©2017

Even perfect days
can end in rain,
Soft mists that barely cover
Or wrenching downpours
That wash away
The emotional bubble.

Dancing in the wet,
Playing with the moment
Much as a child unsupervised.
Pretending that all
Our troubles are forgot,
Yes, even a perfect day
Can end in rain.

Rain, though it symbolizes
Dreary, dark moments
Can bring a pause,
A simple time to let go,
To play as the clocks hands
Move across the tic tocking
Of adulthood.

Release,
Allowing joy to wash off
Stress, pain, tension,
And then to leave us
In a forgotten moment
In the lost minutes of
Childhoods hour.

I survived

I am pleased to claim 19 of the 24 prompts given for the marathon. I have 20 poems now for Literary Drops. I hope to be publishing it in December.

Reminiscent

Bare feet

And heavy dreams.

Atop the sky,

Life was eternal it seems.

Hidden forts,

Behind bleachers,

In the trees.
Running about pretending

That we would always be,

Friends and dreamers

In infinity.
Innocence a haze,

Setting the tone,

Childhood a state

Best when not alone.

planning and prompted writing

images-3.jpg

I have been writing more lately.  This is a good thing.  my poetry is flowing. And the stories are trying to do the same. this is where my issue is.  I am not a planner when I write.  So when I have a dozen stories vying for space in my mind and am only one person…. well it means that I get so far in a story and lose track of where it should go. which is entirely frustrating. Planning the story only causes me to loose focus quicker. I am not saying this to whine.  it is just the way that I am.

So I am feeling that frustration with my current story and I set a deadline with my editor.  What that means is something ends up being forgotten in my struggle to make the story fall into line. For me… I am sorry to say… it has been this blog. I wanted to apologize for this.  I will likely be lax in posting until I am finished with this one and sent to the editor. I hope that you understand and return to see me after the 27th.

Got inspired

So my sister pointed out some nanowrimo sprints on Twitter.  And I was tickled and inspired by one of the prompts..  It was three words to work in the current section of your writing.  GREATEST,  BRAINWASH, HAMPSTER.

I found them delightful.  So I wrote this poem…

The greatest thing
To clear the mind,
Leave all worry,
Work and woe behind.

Brainwash yourself
To enjoy all the simple things.
Sitting in a swing,
Enjoying the night air.
Forgetting for a while
That you even care.

Stop acting the hamster,
Running the wheel.
Expending all your energy,
Getting no where real.

Day one

Okay I am sick…so admittedly I really am not up to doing a lot.  I am hoping a small writing challenge will excite my brain.  And this seems like it might just be fun. But don’t fault me for it being slightly less than my usual.
So day one….Name five problems with Social media.

           1. No one truly listens to each other.  Everyone has an opinion and social media is often the outlet of choice.  So because everyone is posting their opinion,  no one really wants to hear it. So we fail to listen to what is really being said.

        2. Many people are not being who they are on social media.  There is way too often a who I am in real life and who I am online. The line should not exist.

       3. Social media is not often a safe place.  Images that are triggering and or cruel often make it past the filters set in place to create a safe experience. And then one’s that are non harmful end up being pulled.

       4. Posting random things because you like it will cause your family to worry.

       5. Nowadays,  social media is considered to be something everyone should do.  Oversharing is no longer seen as bad.
