Quicksilver poetry

In school I was asked to write,

In a journal wrapped with wire.

What is it that when you leave

Others to think of you

Do you aspire?

Now I was perhaps all of sixteen

And hardened by pain.

Atracked by my own mind,

Driven half insane.

The teacher was one

Who held my notion,

Inspiration flowed from her,

And put the pen to motion.

I think that I wrote that kind

Is the greatest thing anyone

Could possibly ever think of me.

Since that day,

Nearly thirty years

Have all but flown away.

Every now and then,

My mind is drawn back.

I find myself understanding

Something that then I lacked.

Though kind is a virtue,

One so many do lack,

If I am honest,

More matter of fact,

Then I would answer it different.

I think instead when I leave a room,

I would rather that people

Instead thought me true.

Someone said that war is Hell…

And for them it may be true,

For me, I think that I see

Hell so much differently.

Hell is being locked within,

Hearing your memories

Stuck on repeat again and again.

Hell is trying to reach out

For sanity, for comfort,

And realizing that those

That you love do not care

About your hurt.

Hell is mostly repetition,

The same pain and the same joys

With no end in sight.

Nothing to grow from,

No new light.

The devil ruling hell

Is a true beast,

He is your own mind

Stuck again in rewind.

August links

I normally do this post the first Saturday in the month… I am afraid that I was sick. And then I forgot that I had not done it yet. I have been incredibly squirrel brained. I apologize.

This month I have an additional section to add to my usual links.

Fae Corps Publishing.

Quicksilver poetry

Something new I am thinking about. Sometimes I want to jam. Just free verse because I have too much on my mind. It will likely be rambling and not the cleanest verse. But… It will be a good look into who I am behind the edited and clean verse I usually post. This will also not necessarily be the way that the poetry ends in the books. This section will not be scheduled. It will be a whim. And I make no promise of quality….

Faery Footprints

So I normally do poetry on Monday. Well this is still on topic. My publishing company Fae Corps is doing a poetry collection. I thought that I would share details with all of you.

Information :

1.) What is Faery Footprints?

It is a collection of 100 of the best poems that we were able to find. It is the second anthology published by a indie press.

2.) What’s the catch?

No catch. No fees. We will be accepting poetry sent via email to Faecorpspublishing@gmail.com until the September 30, 2019 deadline. Send the poetry in a doc file as an attachment in the email.

3.) What is the topic?

Well, obviously the topic is what you feel like writing. We want good poetry, the best that you have. If you choose to write about faeries then cool, but it is not a required topic.

4.) What about previous published?

We are fine with previous published as long as you give us that information so that we can credit it. (As long as you still have publication rights).

5.) Oh, yeah that reminds me… What about copyright?

With Fae Corps, we do everything possible to assure that the writer retains their rights. We will have a contract allowing us the ability to publish the work that you send in this volume. That is all we are looking for.

6.) What is the compensation for this ?

We are sorry, at this time we are only able to offer contributers copies.

7.) What is the limits on the submissions?

Up to 5 poems each person with a Maximum of 100 words. We do not limit style. If you want your poem in a certain layout… Please state such in the email.

8.) So how will I know if my poem made it?

The first week of November, my fellow editor and I will be going through the submissions. I have been trying to make sure that we send a receipt for each email. By the second week we will be sending out responses.

9.) What if I don’t do poetry?

We have another anthology that we are working on… Go here.

10.) What if I am uncertain about my writing?

Send us your poetry anyway… My partner and I will try to give you feedback. And any poetry that does not make it into the collection has a chance of being featured on our blog.

What could it hurt to reach out and try?

Thursday Tea Party

Well hello lovelies! Pull up a seat! Pick a tea! I have a variety!

So, announcements.

Due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control… Creative Risings summer edition was cancelled this year. The good news is I will be in the fall edition. Which is due in September.

Serena has decided to step back from Life, guilt, and undeath for a bit. Though it has been worked on, she is struggling with it. Her thought is to work on something else until it flows easier. She is working on The Kingdoms of Sin, a book based upon a game world of my creation. I am hoping that she does it justice.

Been fighting my back all week. So it means that I have been falling behind in my own writing. Pain makes writing difficult proposition. So I have been a less vocal blogger this week. I apologize. I am hoping to fix it in time to post for Monday. Normally I have Thursday and Friday posts written ahead of time. This week I am behind.

I have been following the prompts given by Christine over on the brave and reckless blog. So my blog has been seeing more activity on the weekend lately. I don’t know how long that will continue. I do know that I am going to be doing Sketchtember and inktober over on my Patreon this year. You can see those pieces for as little as $1 a month.

Well that’s the announcements for this week. So, now I have a question… What song would you like to see my thoughts on Tuesday tunes?

Random thoughts of poetry.

Now I normally don’t do this. I don’t explain my poetry, or my art, because I think that most people see what they want to in anything creative. I feel like explanation ruins a piece. To be honest this post is not entirely an explanation… But rather an aside. I have been thinking a lot lately about accountability. About guilt and mistakes. About what I am responsible for in my life and what regrets I should have and what it all means.

I have thought about the regrets that others have expressed towards me. I find that I have very few actual regrets. Each of my choices I made with all of the knowledge that I had at the time. I have revisited some of them later… And hindsight makes regret easy… If you let it.

The problem comes in when you allow regret to consume your conscience. We are as a society, cold. We have lost the conscience. We have lost the knowledge of good and evil, or the will to care. When prison actually looks better than trying to make your way in this miserable world…lives of others no longer matter. That is not a mental illness thing… It is a wake up call.

We have a society where you can work 60+ hours a week and still not be able to afford to pay rent. We live in a society where there is often no way of breaking even, much less getting ahead. Where hate and violence is broadcast nightly on the news. So I have to wonder how we as a society can fix this? How can we take responsibility for the problem and fix it?

Thursday Tea Party

Hi all! Pull up a seat! So much on my mind… I am a wee bit squirrel brained lately. All that it takes to distract me is a shiny object in my side view.

First… I want to express my grief at the sad demise of Grant Thompson. He was way too young to die. *a moment of silence *😭

Now, I think that I promised a Tea recommendation? I love tea. Homemade, store-bought, hot or iced. I prefer sweet, but anymore I settle for adding splenda. One of my favorite store-bought teas are Stash Black Chai Spice. I prepare it with half milk and half water and it is a luxurious treat.

I have been working on the publishing company a lot here lately. It has been a learning experience. I am learning about contracts and the messy part of publishing… That moment when crap hits the fan. It is frustrating when it is your work with snafus… It feels like failure when you are handling other authors work. I am blessed with authors who understand and are patient with me.

Fae corps anthology Under the Mists is available in Ebook format… However as the platform that I chose to use for the paperback is still in Beta… We are looking at a month wait for the paperback. We are still going to be trying to get it in as many hands as possible because these stories are really worth the read.

I am quite sure most of you saw the call for submissions that I shared yesterday. Fae corps has two new anthologies in the works. We are going to do another fae story one, this one about light fae. We are also going to do a poetry collection.

Fae corps is also pleased to announce that we are going to be representing Ms Deedra Nichole in her In a small world series. We are in contract negotiations now, but I have no doubt that we will be able to do it.

I submitted 3 poems in a call for submissions that I found on wordpress. One of the three was accepted. My poem is supposed to be published on August 5th. With all of the feels of failure in the publishing… This felt like a win. I will take it.

Oh… And soon the next edition, the summer edition, of Creative Rising Ezine will be publishing. I will share the link to subscribe as soon as I get it.

Hmmm I think that is everything…. So I will be back tomorrow with some sort of tips on writing…. So for now… Time to gather tea leaves.
