2026 PAD Challenge Day 5

2026 PAD Challenge Day 5

my response is:

all knowledge began
with the blank page,
a pen at the ready,
and oral tradition
ready to be written down.

without the blank page
the oral tradition dies
when the last storyteller
died without passing it on.

how much knowledge was forgotten
for the want of ink and paper,
or because the book was then burned?

The Changeover by Margaret Mahy

A clammy hand pressed Laura down onto her knees beside Jacko’s bed. It was the hand of terror, nothing less.’

It was a warning. Laura felt it when she looked in the mirror that morning. There had been others: the day her father left home, the day she met Sorensen – the boy with the strange silver eyes.

But nothing had prepared Laura for the horror of today. And now her little brother, Jacko, was fighting for his life after being sucked dry of his youth by the sinister Carmody Braque.

Laura knows there is only one way to save Jacko; she must join Sorensen and use his supernatural powers to change over if there is to be any hope for her little brother.

An unforgettable, supernatural romance.

My Thoughts

This was quite a good read. Very young adult romance. I always wanted to read more about the characters.

Saturday Thoughts

This is my work in progress list… and how I keep track of my word count.

Still fighting bronchitis and I have a new wound in my foot. I am attempting the pad challenge using the Fae Corps Publishing prompts. This year I have been unable to see anything from the writer’s digest prompts. I guess I am just not in the right place for them.

Are you doing the pad challenge this year ?

2026 PAD Challenge Day 4

2026 PAD Challenge Day 4

Serena’s response is:

Dripping ink pours
from every pore

as if it were my
lifeblood leaking

I need to write to survive
and still it drips freely
as if I am unable to use it
fast enough

here is my response:

the child flies
on dreams given
lifted by faery wings
and soaring on
the breath of the gods.

For what else could they do
to weave dreams into
some form of reality.

faery wings and dreams
lifted by the breath of the gods
to be eternal and alift.

The Hunger games by Suzanne Collins

The first novel in the worldwide bestselling series by Suzanne Collins!

Winning means fame and fortune. Losing means certain death. The Hunger Games have begun. . . .

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister’s place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

My Thoughts

I love the idea that this was built on. I see several plot holes in the story…but it is not a terrible read. I enjoyed the story. The characters are sympathetic and overall the story was a good read.
