Winnie’s Courage (Getting Back to Oz Book 1) by Jess Reece

What if the Wicked Witch were real?

Winifred Jones wakes up barefoot and bruised in a strange dungeon instead of her cozy San Diego apartment, and things just get weirder from there when she stops Dorothy Gale from murdering the Wicked Witch, accidentally releasing a magical tornado trapped inside a golden compass. In the blink of an eye, the three women are torn from the Witch’s castle in Oz and thrust into one fairytale world of Winnie’s childhood after another. Fighting for their lives against man-eating apes, bloodthirsty pirates, and sadistic queens, they share just one common goal: to get back home.

Pick up Getting Back to Oz: Book One Winnie’s Courage today, and join Winnie on her quest as she discovers if she has the courage to return home, or stay lost forever in literary lands both familiar and dangerous..

My Thoughts

This is another series I adore…The author is amazing. Her book Sasorie (Not sure I am spelling that right) was amazing too. This is the first of three. Each is an in depth imagining of Oz and three women there. The adventure of Oz is definitely felt but the character’s are better than what was in the original story. This has Jess Reece’s imagination written all over it. I haven’t read the next two because I couldn’t get them yet. I bought both this weekend past and look forward to letting y’ all know what I think.

A Demon in Crises (The Endless Series Book 2) by Finn O’Malley

Some choices awaken what should have stayed buried.
Ren has spent millennia suppressing the most dangerous parts of himself. Becoming a Synergy demon wasn’t fate—it was a decision. One that bound him to ancient laws and kept what he truly is contained.
But when magic awakens in the Earth Realm, everything changes.
Ash was never supposed to matter.
Now tethered to her in a way he cannot break, Ren is caught between restraint and something far more volatile: attachment.
Fate doesn’t make mistakes. A devastating chain of events is already in motion, forcing Ren to confront a truth he’s spent centuries burying.
Some connections aren’t meant to survive.
This time… saving her could destroy everything.

My Thoughts

I love this series, this author, and am always wanting more. the book kept me hooked until the end just like every single one of Finn O’MALLEY’S books. it left me mad because I was wanting more. The world is amazing as always and the characters were worth reading. this one is just got me begging for the next one.

Carrie by Steven King

Unpopular at school and subjected to her mother’s religious fanaticism at home, Carrie White does not have it easy. But while she may be picked on by her classmates, she has a gift she’s kept secret since she was a little girl: she can move things with her mind. Doors lock. Candles fall. Her ability has been both a power and a problem. And when she finds herself the recipient of a sudden act of kindness, Carrie feels like she’s finally been given a chance to be normal. She hopes that the nightmare of her classmates’ vicious taunts is over . . . but an unexpected and cruel prank turns her gift into a weapon of horror so destructive that the town may never recover.

My Thoughts

I am so thankful that this was not the first Steven king book I read. This is the only one I ever felt like the movie was better than the book. this book was hard to read because of the way he wrote it. it reads like a bunch of news articles instead of a story. this is only slightly better than the worst book I’ve ever read by him.

The Clan of the cave bear by Jean M. Auel

This novel of awesome beauty and power is a moving saga about people, relationships, and the boundaries of love.

Nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read

Through Jean M. Auel’s magnificent storytelling we are taken back to the dawn of modern humans, and with a girl named Ayla we are swept up in the harsh and beautiful Ice Age world they shared with the ones who called themselves The Clan of the Cave Bear. A natural disaster leaves the young girl wandering alone in an unfamiliar and dangerous land until she is found by a woman of the Clan, people very different from her own kind.

To them, blond, blue-eyed Ayla looks peculiar and ugly – she is one of the Others, those who have moved into their ancient homeland; but Iza cannot leave the girl to die and takes her with them. Iza and Creb, the old Mog-ur, grow to love her, and as Ayla learns the ways of the Clan and Iza’s way of healing, most come to accept her. But the brutal and proud youth who is destined to become their next leader sees her differences as a threat to his authority. He develops a deep and abiding hatred for the strange girl of the Others who lives in their midst, and is determined to get his revenge.

My Thoughts

this series has been a favorite for me from my teenage years. it’s incredibly interesting and detailed. I recommend it .

The Fox that Burns by K.N. Gemme

My parents were two of the most powerful individuals in the supernatural world. Yet, that didn’t stop an unexpected betrayal, or a neglected evil, from attacking our home when I was nine years old. I lost my parents, my home, and my childhood that night.
It’s been a thousand years since that day. I’ve watched the world change, move on, and forget. To survive, I tried my best to do the same. I learned to hide the elemental powers I’d inherited from my mother by pretending to be a strong Spirit Witch while doing what I could to ignore what I’d inherited from my father, even though the need to stop dirty souls was an itch on my own.
In recent years, that itch drove me to become a consultant crime scene analyst for the New England division of the Supernatural Department of Honor, or SDH for short. I willingly bore witness to crimes that tempted instincts I’ve spent lifetimes burying, because I knew my assistance helped stop dirty souls without exposing my Familiar, my Shadow or myself.
That was, until I put it all at risk when I offered to drive to Maine to do — what should have been — a simple confirmation of identity but turned into a race against the clock to save a young girl’s life. For when the fox burns, everything will change, whether I want it to or not…

Disclaimer: The Fox That Burns is the first novel in a long-running series. It’s an intricate story with many pieces, where Book One barely scratches the surface. Expect unanswered questions and cliffhanger that may not be answered until the very last book. And yes, there will be a slow-burning romance that will take time to develop. If you enjoy those kinds of stories, the Soul Bite novels will not disappoint. If not, you’ve been warned

My Thoughts

The disclaimer is correct. and I am afraid that I never got past the first book so far. the first one is well written, and I probably will be going back to the second but there was a personal disagreement between the author and I so I kinda forgot about the second book for a while. the first one was really good…so good I still have a signed copy on my bookshelf and refise to let go of it .

The Darkangel by Meredith Ann Pierce

The Darkangel, a vampire of astounding beauty and youth, can only summon his full power when he finds his 14th and final bride. But for Aeriel, whom he kidnaps to serve his brides, there is something about him–something beyond his obvious evil–that makes her want to save him rather than destroy him. The Darkangel–Pierce’s first book, originally released in 1982–was an ALA Best Book for Young Adults, a New York Times Notable Children’s Book, a Parent’s Choice Award Superbook, and a Booklist Best Book of the Decade.

My Thoughts

This was the first vampire novel I had ever read.  it’s the first one in a trilogy. all three of them are great reads.

Fireflies , smores, and that time I might have accidentally kinda started a faerie war by Alex Nonymoous

It takes a special kind of evil to be a mean girl at an autistic summer camp, but Faith Harris has been excelling at that ever since she first arrived.

Whenever that was. Despite her obsession with Faith, Lots and the rest of her cabinmates can never seem to pinpoint exactly how long they’ve known her.

Still, Lots is going to enjoy this summer. She only has a couple of years left until she’ll have to leave camp and the friendships she’s made there behind, so she’s determined to make the most of it.

Even with camp attendance dwindling. And her best friend signing up to spend a lot more time away from Lots than they’d previous discussed. And the entirety of Faerie declaring war against her cabin after Lots accidentally annoys Faith into revealing her true nature.

Yup, this summer is going to be perfect.

My Thoughts

my son bought me this for my birthday. he was super excited about it. the author is pansexual and autistic. and they write characters that show queer and autistic traits. I honestly felt seen . the story was so much fun and it was something that was truly rich characters.

My Thoughts

Okay I shared the announcement of the sequel last week. so I thought it was a good time to review it on my own personal page. This book is a well written roller-coaster. the characters are strong and the plot is sound. by the end you are simply wishing for more – and more os about to be released.
