Pen names

Ok after a true butt load of soul searching… And research in to branding and such… I have decided that I will still do my children’s books and my poetry volumes under my given name (Patricia Harris) and I will be releasing my more adult stories and novellas as Serena Mossgraves.

If you are curious as to the world of Serena Mossgraves,  her Facebook page is  www.Facebook.com/serenitysfall

And her Twitter page is @serenitysfall

Please keep an eye out.  Her first novella is expected to be released around valentines day.

random thoughts

Ok remember I said I was half mad….here is another slice of my mental world.

  • pen names seem to have more uses than I thought, but I wonder if it really matters
  • people keep expecting me to tell them who my writing style is like…I really can’t begin to explain that I write, and know that others like what I write…but I will never be a good judge.
  • I have no self image. I am me…but I don’t see myself as good or bad…I just am.
  • this sounds like I am whining.
  • the holidays suck because i want so badly to be with everyone I love…but how I see them isn’t usually how i am seen.
  • my daughter cracks me up. she has such a delightful intelligence and a smart sense of humor.
  • I have an editor for Death of Neverland who actually made it less stressful. my insecurities make such things painful.
  • youtube has some really great science based experiment videos
  • I wish I was less insecure
  • I am unsure how to express my thoughts when I am not writing poetry or stories. I end up having trouble with what I say being misconstrued. I am a very honest person, but it doesn’t always come out exactly how I mean.

Book Review: Dragon in the sock drawer by Kate Klimo

Cousins Jesse and Daisy are not prepared when the “thunder egg” Jesse has found turns out to be a dragon egg that is about to hatch.

A cute Tween book. It has adventure and a villain who is scary enough that even the adult readers will no be disappointed. The characters are rich and the descriptions are decent. This is the first book in the series and it allows you to grow with Emerald the dragon and her two preteen keepers. Very magical and a lot of fun to read. I highly recommend.

Daisy Johanssen,  a part time file clerk half demon is so much more…. She’s Hel’s liaison between the eldrich community and the mundane authorities. This is the first in a fun trio of books.  I just finished book two(Autumn bones).  This first one feels like more of a young adult story.  It has a definitely fun upbeat main character.  The writer is really good at describing the action.  I would highly recommend it.

*a side note : the second book has more sexual content but nothing overly graphic. There’s another series by the same author that is more graphic. I really enjoyed it as well.

Real Advice About Life and Love from Someone Who Learned the Hard Way

Kim D. Bailey's avatarKim D. Bailey

I’m no expert on love and relationships. In fact, I’ve failed at all of them so far. However, my failures have taught me some important things about life and love, and being my most authentic self.

Here’s a little life and relationship advice from someone who would know because she has learned the hard way:

-If you get married, your spouse comes before the other people in your life. Yes. They. Do.

-Don’t hang on to your past, or it will interfere with your present.

-Be honest. If someone loves you, they will love you no matter what. If you can’t tell the truth, don’t think your lie will hold. It won’t. It will wreck another person’s life. Especially when they ask you up front and want an honest answer, and they eventually learn what you’re hiding.

-A wife is not a mother or maid to her husband, and a…

PLEASE RE-BLOG, PLEASE.

Lucinda E Clarke's avatarlucinda E Clarke

Please will you re-blog this post for me? Yes, I know you’ve not read it yet, but I really, really want to get the word out.

In January I plan to start a new monthly newsletter which will contain the back story to Amie before she went to Africa and the lives of other characters in the trilogy. The first one recounts a major event in Ben’s life which I think you will find both fascinating and interesting. This will only ever appear in my newsletter and never be posted anywhere else.

There will also be early notice of price drops and promos and I will feature and promote books by other authors – so, if you’d like to be included, please contact me.

Most important of all, I will be giving you updates on the full story of the court case as Amie sues me with the intention of…

Working, or Why Making Art is a Fulltime Job

Omg! This! I can not tell you how many times I have been told that I sit around and do nothing. I have 11 books on amazon. I have three more in progress. I homeschool. I assist with dealing with the big truck that I am riding in. And I write. I am always writing. Always producing art. Both of the writing sort and of the visual sort. This blog explains my frustration so well…

A-hand-writing-with-a-pen-006While following a symphony orchestra labor dispute recently, I was reminded of the public’s perception of professional orchestral musicians, i.e. these people don’t work hard or fulltime. Wrong! It’s the same thing with writers although with professional writers, the professional tends to go in quotes and work is actually hobby. Makes my blood boil.

It doesn’t help that getting paid for one’s art is so difficult. If I were to have gone into journalism and written as a journalist, there’d be no question that my writing was worth my salary. But a novel? Short stories? Just how much work goes into creating fiction? I’ve written before about creative writing as a job and what the job description would look like. There’s a lot more that goes into the work than people know or even think about. It’s not a matter of simply sitting at a desk and putting words…
