A day for me to discuss music

Alec Benjamin – if we have each other

Lyrics She was 19 with a baby on the way
On the East-side of the city, she was working every day
Cleaning dishes in the evening, she could barely stay awake
She was clinging to the feeling that her luck was gonna change
And, ‘cross town she would take the bus at night
To a one bedroom apartment, and when she’d turn on the light
She would sit down at the table, tell herself that it’s alright
She was waiting on the day she hoped her baby would arrive
She’d never be alone
Have someone to hold
And when nights were cold
She’d say
The world’s not perfect, but it’s not that bad
If we got each other, and that’s all we have
I will be your mother, and I’ll hold your hand
You should know I’ll be there for you
When the world’s not perfect
When the world’s not kind
If we have each other then we’ll both be fine
I will be your mother, and I’ll hold your hand
You should know I’ll be there for you
They were 90 and were living out their days
On the West-side of the city next to where they got engaged
They had pictures on the walls of all the memories that they’d made
And though life was never easy, they were thankful that they stayed
With each other, and though some times were hard
Even when she made him angry he would never break her heart
No, they didn’t have the money to afford a fancy car
But they never had to travel ’cause they’d never be apart
Even at the end
Their love was stronger than
The day that they first met
They’d say
The world’s not perfect, but it’s not that bad
If we got each other, and that’s all we have
I will be your lover, and I’ll hold your hand
You should know I’ll be there for you
When the world’s not perfect
When the world’s not kind
If we have each other then we’ll both be fine
I will be your lover, and I’ll hold your hand
You should know I’ll be there for you
You should know I’ll be there for you
I’m 23, and my folks are getting old
I know they don’t have forever and I’m scared to be alone
So I’m thankful for my sister, even though sometimes we fight
When high school wasn’t easy, she’s the reason I survived
I know she’d never leave me and I hate to see her cry
So I wrote this verse to tell her that I’m always by her side
I wrote this verse to tell her that I’m always by her side
I wrote this verse to tell her that
The world’s not perfect, but it’s not that bad
If we got each other, and that’s all we have
I will be your brother, and I’ll hold your hand
You should know I’ll be there for you
When the world’s not perfect
When the world’s not kind
If we have each other then we’ll both be fine
I will be your brother, and I’ll hold your hand
You should know I’ll be there for you
You should know I’ll be there for you

My 2 cents so much has gone on this year and I needed some happy with the music. so I chose upbeat and happy survival music. rock on.

Alec Benjamin – Gotta Be A Reason

Lyrics –

[Chorus]
There’s gotta be a reason that I’m here on Earth
Gotta be a reason for the dust and the dirt
The changing of the seasons never changed my hurt
So what’s it worth? What’s it worth?
Worth another shot of whiskey and another sip of gin
Another drop of poison that is slowly sinking in
If we’re going down together, better take another hit
We won’t be here forever, so let’s make the best of it

[Post-Chorus]
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

[Verse 1]
Walking down to the burial ground
With a sad song in his brain
General Cloud is an old man now
But it feels like yesterday
He was on the front lines, stranded on the beach
Crawling to his best friend, floating in the sea
But he didn’t make it, he still can’t believe
How arbitrary fate is, he says

[Verse 2]
She went down to her job in town
With a sad song in her heart
33 with a wasted dream to become a movie star
Living out a suitcase, serving at a bar
Saving up some pennies, working after dark
Is she gonna make it? She still can’t believe
How arbitrary fate is, she says

My 2 cents – is this not the ultimate question? Why are we here? I love to believe that we are here to help each other to thrive. To find joy. To learn love. To see beauty in the world around us.

Ale Benjamin – Let Me Down Slowly

Lyrics – This night is cold in the kingdom
I can feel you fade away
From the kitchen to the bathroom sink and
Your steps keep me awake Don’t cut me down, throw me out, leave me here to waste
I once was a man with dignity and grace
Now I’m slipping through the cracks of your cold embrace
So please, please Could you find a way to let me down slowly?
A little sympathy, I hope you can show me
If you wanna go, then I’ll be so lonely
If you’re leaving, baby let me down slowly
Let me down, down
Let me down, down
Let me down, let me down
Down, let me down, down
Let me down
If you wanna go, then I’ll be so lonely
If you’re leaving, baby let me down slowly Cold skin, drag my feet on the tile
As I’m walking down the corridor
And I know we haven’t talked in a while
So I’m looking for an open door

My 2 cents – to me this song speaks of loneliness and freedom.

Alec Benjamen – Paper Crowns

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
A paper crown, and a heart made of glass
A tattered gown, and a kingdom of ash
She walks alone, she can never look back
The story of a queen whose castle has fallen to the sea
She’ll make it out, but she’s never the same
She’s looking down at the scars that remain
But you hold your ground, though your kingdom’s in flames
‘Cause it’s the story of a queen whose castle has fallen to the sea
Knowing there’s no one who will be
A king that will come and save his queen

[Chorus]
When all she needs, when all she wants, when all she finds
When all she is, and ever was is compromised
‘Cause there’s no one to love you
When you built your walls too high
And there’s no one to love you
When you build your walls too high

[Verse 2]
She’s looking out from the war that’s inside
You’re screaming out ’cause no one survived
But when you’re all alone, you wait and you hide
‘Cause it’s the story of a queen whose castle has fallen to the sea
Knowing there’s no one who will be
A king who will come and save his queen

[Chorus]
When all she needs, when all she wants, when all she finds
When all she is, and ever was is compromised
‘Cause there’s no one to love you
When you built your walls too high
And there’s no one to love you
When you build your walls too high

[Bridge]
There’s no one who is strong enough to save your love
There’s no fairy tale, there’s no fairy tale

[Chorus]
All she needs, when all she wants, when all she finds
When all she is, and ever was is compromised
‘Cause there’s no one to love you
When you built your walls too high
And there’s no one to love you
When you trap yourself inside

My 2 cents –

This song touches the heart. Self sufficiency and survival…. Two realities. This song just makes me feel like I am not alone in this world.
