When two young boys venture into the woods, and only one returns alive, Mears begins to realize that something sinister is at work. With this, his second novel, Stephen King established himself as an indisputable master of American horror, able to transform the old conceits of the genre into something fresh and all the more frightening for taking place in a familiar, idyllic locale.
I have been reading horror, and other things, for as long as I can remember. I have only ever once been scared because of what I read. This was far from my first encounter with the master of horror. It was however in my mind his best. I may actually review the worst next week…This book is visceral in the details. I was in the story. None of the movies have ever done it justice.
