Book I Have Read

Okay this is not going to be an assigned thing. I may decide to do it instead of a normal weekday post, as I am this week…or I might drop it in randomly as I feel the desire. The Fae Corps Blog Does a Saturday TBR and they are not always books that we have read, but ones that look good amongst the recommendations we get. These are all going to be ones I have read, and This will be my clear thoughts on them. Now as I sometimes sign up to be an ARC reader, I will not always have the link for you to buy the book…but I will try to post when any I do miss the link on are live.

I have always been a voracious reader. I go through a trade paperback in about 4 hours. Since I have started publishing, finding time to read seems like a bit of a luxury. Not because I don’t read now…on the contrary. I am always reading things that people send me to publish, to edit, just to get opinions on. So reading for fun just seems like something I really don’t get to do as often as I would like. I have thousands of books on my kindle. And enough paperback and hardback books that it often causes fights. (My boyfriend’s of the opinion that if I am not reading them I should donate them). I keep the ones that I am willing to re-read. That means that eventually I will pick them back up.
But the last few books I have indulged in…Ones I sought out for personal pleasure that had nothing to do with publishing…I found myself taking a couple of days to read. Simply because I was enjoying them, so I would put them down and stop for a couple of hours to do other things before coming back to them. So I realized that maybe beyond the Goodreads/amazon/and the like reviews…maybe I should take the time to tell you guys about these books.

Okay with this one… My friend Jenny said that I just had to read it. So she sent me a gift on Kindle. I am so fond of seeing real representation in books of people who are often not seen.

The main character in this story is Gender fluid. There’s gay side characters. It’s a why Choose, which is not a thing for everyone. I rather enjoyed the way the world was set up. I enjoyed the fact that each of the romances were different.

Beauty’s beasts by Alex Hanson is a personal favorite… And it’s only book one of the series.

I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

What would you expect from a poetry book? Or an art book? Or really any book?

I am sitting here considering the composition of a coloring book and I am not sure of what makes a good one.

I know what I like.

This far I have been trying to get the books I published to be stuff that I like…

But what if I am not a good judge of content?

Thursday Tea Party

Hello Lovelies! Today I am drinking some lovely peach tea. What will you have?

There is a lot to announce!
First off, one of my art pieces that I submitted to Indie Blu(e)’s Through The Looking Glass: Reflecting on Madness and Chaos Within was accepted! I will try to keep you updated on that as I know more. I am so excited as their books are so pretty. I submitted to that and to But You Don’t Look Sick …I have not yet heard about But you don’t look sick. Again, updates as I have them. *Edit: I finished writing this and scheduled it. Then I went to check my email, only to find the acceptance letter in the email I will have 4 poems in that anthology.

Next, Serena finished writing Madness and Truth. It has been through the alpha readers and is handed off to the editor currently. The story is creepy and carries a good haunted feel to it. I expect that we will be publishing it some time in 2021.

I have finished writing Afraid of Shoe Mountain and am currently working on the illustrations. Though I love Shannon’s Illustrations, and will likely hold Dylan and the Hotel Zombie until she can do the art, I am not wanting to continue to wait with Afraid of Shoe Mountain. I am enjoying the illustration of this book. I have been uploading them to DeviantArt for those who are interested. (I only have 2 finished so far).

I am nearly done with the writing for Heart Drops, and Half-Mad Meanderings. Serena has been working hard on Death Becomes Her. Half-Mad Meanderings is only 5 poems away from done. Heart drops 2 art and 7 poems away. And Serena says she still needs 20 poems for Death Becomes Her. Likely all three will be released in 2021.

Circle City Publishing is nearly ready to release their An Absurd Apocalypse that will have Serena’s Flash story in it. I do not know how much longer that will be. I will let you know more as I do.

Fae Corps Inc is going to release Faery Playground with my art and a story from Serena in May. The tone of the submissions had the cover needing redone. They plan to reveal the cover on April First (No Joke!). It has been a fun anthology to edit if I am honest. I am looking personally for 2 ARC reviewers. (ARC reviewers are readers who, for an advanced copy post an honest review on Amazon or Goodreads. )

Well, I think I am finally done with the updates! whew! That was a lot!

Oh! and I am considering adding a store to my blog. I make jewelry and Resin pieces that I need to find a place to sell. I am going in April to the local flea market, but I like the online store idea better. My studio is very nearly set up. So the next focus is a storefront. Watch here for more information.

The Last Summer

Ok… There’s all the information for this book… Now I want to tell you my opinion. I was lucky enough to be one of the arc (advance reader copy – usually given for an honest review) group. This is a sweet story. Quite a refreshing read. The characters are well written and it is a worthy read. I really enjoyed it, and it is likely to be one I reread again and again.

Sara Teasdale

Sara Teasdale is one of two poets that I found through Irene Hunt’s coming of age novel. I fell in love with the poem “I shall not care” and had to search for more by her. Admitted, I have not researched the poet as well as I did her work.

Her writing is flowing and feels like love poetry with out the sappy nature of some love poetry. I chose four of her poems to share as my favorite of hers. I hope that you enjoy them as much as I do.

And a side note… I thoroughly recommend Up a Road Slowly by Irene Hunt. The story is dated, but it holds up well. The lessons the main character learns are just as valid sixty years later. I really felt like I was with her as she grew and matured.

Tuesday Tea Party

Hello lovelies. Pardon me if I am less active today… Yesterday I was deathly ill and today I am still… Weak.

Today I am mostly doing water, because I am trying to rehydrate. But I hope that will not stop you.

So much upcoming. Before I start with the upcoming….I have a question to ask… Have you read any of mine or Serena’s published work? Have you left a review? If not, why? Those reviews really do help me and Serena to know that we are doing this writing thing right. It may not seem like much but it really does help.

Now, as to the upcoming… I am working with formatting on a faerie anthology for Fae Corps. It’s a mismatch of information that we used for the Birtchwood grove blog we did a few years ago.

We have a deadline coming up for the through the sunshine anthology. It is looking like it will be amazing… The stories so far are great. Our deadline allows for a first draft submision. We will be helping with editing.

I submitted to Indie Blu(e) publishing’s upcoming anthology and await the decision on whether or not I will be included.

I have been accepted for 4 poems in the coffee house writers anthology. There is an amazing amount of talent included in this anthology.

I have working on my volume Heart Drops, and I have decided that I will be doing more in Dylan and the pet zombie’s world. I have already discussed with my illustrator sending the next volume to her in March. I have to spend more time with Dylan.

Serena is still working with the kingdoms of sin. She is also involved with a short that I may be posting here at some point.

Patreon is seeing a more regular posting schedule. Saturday I am posting patreon people. This is where I point to more interesting people on patreon. Monday is patreon possibility. I discuss diy projects. This week I was talking about bookmarks.. Wednesday I do wishlist. This is where I discuss tools and other supplies and why I want them. Friday I am doing a free for all where I will be posting what ever strikes my fancy.

There is a lot more upcoming as this is only the first month of the year. So stay tuned.

Thursday Read with Me

I know that I usually do the tea party on Thursday, that is going to happen still. I also want to add a read with me. This is where I review books for you. I will not guarantee how often I will post read with me.

Today I will be talking about Diana Gabaldan’s Outlander. It is the first book in a series.

About the book:

Outlander is the first in a series of eight historical multi-genre novels by Diana Gabaldon. Published in 1991, it focuses on the Second World War-era nurse Claire Randall, who travels through time to 18th century Scotland and finds adventure and romance with the dashing Jamie Fraser.

My two cents :

To be honest I fell in love with the characters. She obviously researched the setting, the period, the medical uses of herbs. It is well written. It flows very well. The reader feels like they are watching it.

My challenge :

There is a television show that is based upon the book. It is missing some of the details. I challenge you to read this book and then decide if you can walk away from the series. I couldn’t. I have read it multiple times now.

This was an interesting read. I found it to be well written and captivating.

Review : A Time for Violence Anthology

I was offered the opportunity to read this anthology. It’s a wonderful set of stories. I was really drawn in and found that all of the stories contained within were of equal quality. Go check it out on Amazon. I gave it five stars, and highly recommend it for your next read.
