A day for me to discuss music

Lyrics:

I knew a man, called him Sandy Cane
Few folks even knew his name
But a hero, yes was he
Left a boy, came back a man
Still many just don’t understand
About the reasons we are free
I can’t forget the look in his eyes
Or the tears he cried
As he said these words to me

All Gave Some, Some Gave All
Some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some Gave All

Now Sandy Cane is no longer here
But his words are oh so clear
As they echo throughout our land
For all his friends who gave us all
Who stood their ground and took the fall
To help their fellow man
Love your country and live with pride
And don’t forget those who died
America can’t you see?

All Gave Some, Some Gave All
Some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Some Gave All

And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall
Yes recall
Some Gave All
Some Gave All

My Two Cents- This will post the day after Memorial Day. Those who listen to Country probably know this artist for the hit “Achy Breaky Heart” That song always pissed me off because this was the title track. It is so much better a song. It to me always personified Memorial Day. I debated about using it this week due to the fact that it will post the day after…But really the sentiment is good for any day. Though I have my issues with current American politics…I am a born and bred southern lady from the good ole US of A. My family has been a part of the country for several generations. My Great Grandfather was one of Pershing’s Own. He and my Great Grandmother and their Son Walton (A gentle soul that I loved as a child – Had Down Syndrome and was born during the time that Down Syndrome children were institutionalized. He played guitar and loved to spend time with me.) are buried not far from the tomb of the unknown soldier in Arlington National Cemetary. Great Grandfather was in World War I. By the time WWII came around, he had a family and my Great Grandmother refused to sign the permission slip for him to fight.

My stepfather – Bobby was a merchant marine.

My Aunt Elly was Navy.

My cousin (the eldest of us on my mom’s side) is a Marine.

My grandfather (Mom’s Side) was military – Though I don’t know much about him.

To all who served, and are gone, I remember you. Thank you for your sacrifice.

A day for me to discuss music

Lyrics:

Mama, I found someone
Like you said would come along
He’s a sight and so unlike
Any man I’ve known

I was afraid to let him in
‘Cause I’m not the trustin’ kind
But now I’m convinced that he’s heaven sent
And must be out of his mind

Mama, he’s crazy, crazy over me
And in my life is where he says
He always wants to be

I’ve never been so in love
He beats all I’ve ever seen
And mama, he’s crazy, he’s crazy over me

And mama, you’ve always said
You better look before you leap
But maybe so, but here I go
Lettin’ my heart lead me

He thinks I hung the moon and stars
I think he’s a livin’ dream
Well, there are men, but ones like him
Are few and far between

Mama, he’s crazy, crazy over me
And in my life is where he says
He always wants to be

I’ve never been so in love
He beats all I’ve ever seen
Mama, he’s crazy, he’s crazy over me
Oh mama, he’s crazy, he’s crazy over me

My Two Cents – With Naomi Judd’s passing, it just seems appropriate to post my favorite Judds song. I grew up with country music as the music I was allowed to listen to. Mama didn’t like Rock or pop or R&B. so I was a teenager before I had access to the spectrum of music. I really don’t listen to the country music as much now- mostly because I tend to get new music from my daughter and she doesn’t like country. The music of my youth is still loved however, and I honestly loved the Judds.

So you found a new book?

Or maybe you just published one?

Did you find a new webcomic that you like?

Or a song you think everyone should hear?

No need for explanation…Just Share it.

You find a good deal that you think we should all see? Just share!

Or hey even a joke you think too fun not to share, Just share it.

Post links in the comments.

Occasionally I will too.

A day for me to discuss music

Lyrics:

Well I’m an axegrinder piledriver
Mother says that I never never mind her
Got no brains I’m insane
Teacher says that I’m one big pain
I’m like a laser 6-streamin’ razor
I got a mouth like an alligator
I want it louder
More power
I’m gonna rock ya till it strikes the hour

Bang your head! metal health’ll drive you mad
Band your head! metal health’ll drive you mad

Well I’m frustrated
Outdated I really want to be over-rated
I’m a finder and I’m a keeper
I’m not a loser and I ain’t no weeper
I got the boys to make the noise
Won’t ever let up
Hope it annoys you
Join the pack
Fill the crack
Well now you’re here
There’s no way back

My Two Cents- Today is a bad communication day for me. I was trying to figure out a good song for the post. I told Joe that I felt like I needed to bang my head against the desk because of how hard it was to communicate. He said that I had my song…yeah I guess I did. So join me in Banging my head with happy instead of frustration,

A day for me to discuss music

Usually, I pick a single song…Today I want to talk about covers. These have such a fine line. I love Disturbed’s cover of Song of Silence and Hate Seether’s Careless Whisper…Though both were well done the second rubs me the wrong way because of how special that song is to me. There are several songs that people don’t realize are cover songs. (Like the Fugee’s hit of “Killing me softly” was originally sung by Roberta Flack. ) Well done covers change a song and add something to it. Sometimes That makes the song terrible. Sometimes it improves it. Depends very strongly on who is listening. It is entirely possible to enjoy both versions. I love Zombie by the Cranberries and by Bad Wolves. I also enjoy Enter Sandman by both Metallica and SHEL. So covers are not always an if /or situation.

That being said…What is your favorite covered song? Who sang it originally? Who covered it, and was the cover better?

A day for me to discuss music

Lyrics –
That’s just what they told me
You could be a patriot
Don’t you love your country?
Don’t you wanna die for it?
How could they enlist me?
I was only seventeen
It’s better to be thankful
Than challenge their authority
This is how the world is
This is how they suck you in
Manipulate the broken
To suffer every consequence
They gave me a machine gun
But I don’t wanna hurt no one
There’s nothing here to fight for
This is someone else’s war
That’s just what they told me
Son, you could be a patriot
Defender of your country
Protector of the innocent
We’ll beat ’em with a clenched fist
By order of your government
They said we were the good guys
But what if we’re the terrorists?
This is how the world is
This is how they suck you in
Manipulate the broken
To suffer every consequence
They gave me a machine gun
But I don’t wanna hurt no one
There’s nothing here to fight for
This is someone else’s war
This is how the world ends
This is how they suck you in
Manipulate the broken
To suffer every consequence
I’m only a statistic
And no one even gives a shit
The treatment for my shell shock
Yeah, they won’t even pay for it
I fired that machine gun
I never meant to hurt no one
And as my friends and foes bleed
We satisfy a rich man’s greed
Maybe I don’t know a damn thing
I’ve never been through anything
This is all I can be
A voice for someone else’s grief
He fired that machine gun
She never meant to hurt no one
‘Cause once you leave a headstone
You never really make it home

My 2 Cents-
This song feels appropriate due to world events. There will always be war, a fact that breaks my pacifistic heart. The soldiers are not to blame for the war, they are just another victim. And I want to cry at the helplessness the whole thing brings. So I will scream that I want peace…I will cry for the lost. And I will hope that the politicians someday hear us.,
