Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K Hamilton

Meet Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, in the first novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series that “blends the genres of romance, horror and adventure with stunning panache”(Diana Gabaldon).

Laurell K. Hamilton’s bestselling series has captured readers’ wildest imaginations and addicted them to a seductive world where supernatural hungers collide with the desires of the human heart, starring a heroine like no other…

Anita Blake is small, dark, and dangerous. Her turf is the city of St. Louis. Her job: re-animating the dead and killing the undead who take things too far. But when the city’s most powerful vampire asks her to solve a series of vicious slayings, Anita must confront her greatest fear—her undeniable attraction to master vampire Jean-Claude, one of the creatures she is sworn to destroy…

“What The Da Vinci Code did for the religious thriller, the Anita Blake series has done for the vampire novel.”—USA Today

My Thoughts

This one got me hooked on Anita quick and fast. She is a bit of a bad ass. This introduced me to the subgenre of reverse harem and it was a good read. it has a definite place on my physical bookshelf.

Saturday Thoughts

This is my work in progress list… and how I keep track of my word count.

I didn’t get as much as I wanted written.

this week was a high pain week so I spent the whole week in a pain fog.

Lyrics –

My mother says I have Irish eyes
Irish eyes, Irish eyes
My mother says I have Irish eyes
They go ever so blue under stormy skies
But they’re never so blue as when I let them cry
My father says I have English hair
English hair, English hair
Brown like the bark of an oak somewhere
Like the bed of a lake where the hemlock grows
Like the thorn in the stem of an English rose
I’m a map of the world and the ones before
One foot in sea and one on shore
Every step, every hope flung high
I’m a map of them all with my Irish eyes
My Nana says I have travelling feet
Travelling feet, travelling feet
Slippers for princesses don’t fit me
But I dance to my own drum, bright and bold
And my travelling feet always get me home
My sister says I’ve a restless soul
Restless soul, restless soul
Easy to catch, but I’m hard to hold
Like a song on the wind that you caught one day
I get under your skin, then I slip away
I’m a map of the world and the ones before
One foot in sea and one on shore
Every step, every hope flung high
I’m a map of them all with my Irish eyes
My mother says I have Irish eyes
Irish eyes, Irish eyes
My mother says I have Irish eyes
They go ever so blue
‘Cause I’m a map of the world and the ones before
One foot in sea and one on shore
Every step, every hope flung high
I’m a map of them all with my Irish eyes

My 2 cents –

I have been thinking a lot lately about the women I came from. I remember my great great grandmother on my father’s side. I really enjoyed my great grandmother on both sides. both of them were strong women. One taught me how to play scrabble when I was a toddler and I never once won. lol

I don’t have Irish eyes but I have enough of each one that I am a happy person.

The Witch who trades with Death

From the author of Citadel and popular TikTokker C.M. Alongi comes a bewitching new romantic fantasy where a young witch seeks her freedom by forging a deal with Death.

A young witch forced to play concubine for her imperial captor, finally breaks free to find a life of her own, but even those with the power to call Death cannot outrun their past…

All witches must serve the cruel and immortal Emperor Yamueto. But after four years of terror and abuse, Khana not only kills one of his favorite courtiers with her magic, but also discovers the secret of his power and immortality: he’s been making deals with Death. And now, so is she.

Armed with magic that she doesn’t fully understand, Khana flees the empire and stumbles into a small mountain town filled with fierce warriors that ostracize her for being a witch, despite using her abilities to heal their sick and injured. There, her magic and courage are put to the test as she is forced to stop running and fight back against the emperor that wants her dead.

But every deal she makes with Death takes another piece of her soul. And there’s only so much Khana can give before she turns into the very monster she’s trying to destroy..

My Thoughts

the characters are richly written and the world building is amazing. the trigger warnings are very accurate – and well thought about. A very enjoyable read. I have yet to read anything from the author I have not enjoyed.

Saturday Thoughts

This is my work in progress list… and how I keep track of my word count.

This Week I have been focusing on Stolen skins. It’s for the fall anthology from Fae Corps. The Anthology is pirate themed.

I didn’t get as much as I wanted written.

the truth is that this week was not a health issue. not in the traditional sense. my monitor was dying and I was having a panic because of it. y’all that monitor has been strong for us for a while now and it dying was like losing a member of the family. we bought it when we were in Oklahoma for a tv and console monitor. it was an upgrade for the 19 inch we got before it. then I started to use it when the boyfriend got him a 50 inch smart tv as his monitor. I have been using it at least since 2017.  So it’s dying was not a good thing for me.

yesterday I was given an early birthday gift as my boyfriend could not stand watching me grieve for it anymore. he got me a 24 inch smart tv to replace it. yeah it’s smaller but it’s functional and I can watch tv on it too. so I am hoping to get some work done this week. (my birthday is in March)

Artsy Fartsy Thursday

Artsy Fartsy Thursday
Arsty Fartsy Thursday

Okay… The new year has made me reconsider the way I have been doing things with my blog. When possible I will be trying to schedule it as much ahead as possible. This way I don’t fall as much behind. The Artsy Fartsy Thursday is good for this. I want to change my way of posting it as well. At least one Thursday a month I think I want to actually talk about art. Not just posting my own.  This way I don’t feel like I am so often just getting away from writing.  Sometimes it might be just discussion on art social media…or I will talk about techniques. this will be a single post each month for me to tell you what my mind says art is.

Art is seriously perspective based.

For some reason every artist I have ever met has been so filled with doubt.

Art is full of various ideas and thoughts. The media used changes what the artist has had to learn to make the art work.
