Lyrics –

To all things housed in her silence
Nature offers a violence
The bear that keeps to his own line
The wolf that seeks always his own kind
The world that hardens as the harsher winter holds
The parent forced to eat its young before it grows

Every bird, gone unheard
Starving where the ground has froze
The winter sunrise, red on white
Like blood upon the snow
Like blood upon the snow

The ground walked here is a wonder
It ceases never to hunger
And all things nature’s given
She takes all things back from the living

I’ve walked the earth and there are so few here that know
How dark the night and just how cold the wind can blow
I’ve no more hunger now to see where the road will go
I’ve no more kept my warmth
Than blood upon the snow
Blood upon the snow
Blood upon the snow
Blood upon the snow

It’s not my arms that will fail me
But this world takes more strength than it gave me
The trees deny themselves nothing that makes them grow
No rain fall, no sunshine
No blood upon the snow
Blood upon the snow
Blood upon the snow
Blood upon the snow

To all things housed in her silence
Nature offers a violence

My 2 cents –

This is such a lovely song. It feels more like a poem being sung than a song to me.

Sunday Reviews

The land of Terre d’Ange is a place of unsurpassing beauty and grace. It is said that angels found the land and saw it was good…and the ensuing race that rose from the seed of angels and men live by one simple rule: Love as thou wilt.

Phèdre nó Delaunay is a young woman who was born with a scarlet mote in her left eye. Sold into indentured servitude as a child, her bond is purchased by Anafiel Delaunay, a nobleman with very a special mission…and the first one to recognize who and what she is: one pricked by Kushiel’s Dart, chosen to forever experience pain and pleasure as one. Phèdre is trained equally in the courtly arts and the talents of the bedchamber but, above all, the ability to observe, remember, and analyze. Almost as talented a spy as she is courtesan, Phèdre stumbles upon a plot that threatens the very foundations of her homeland. Treachery sets her on her path; love and honor goad her further. And in the doing, it will take her to the edge of despair…and beyond.

Hateful friend, loving enemy, beloved assassin; they can all wear the same glittering mask in this world, and Phèdre will get but one chance to save all that she holds dear. Set in a world of cunning poets, deadly courtiers, heroic traitors, and a truly Machiavellian villainess, this is a novel of grandeur, luxuriance, sacrifice, betrayal, and deeply laid conspiracies. Not since Dune has there been an epic on the scale of Kushiel’s Dart – a massive tale about the violent death of an old age and the birth of a new.

Yeah I just copied the blurb. I probably am going to continue to do that as it is easier for me to just give my thoughts on a book and not have to explain what the book is about.

This is the first of a nine book set. ALL are worth the read. There is a wee bit of spice in them, but it is well done. This series is in my often reread group. A friend introduced me to it and I have read it more than a dozen times since. It has themes of BDSM, Religion, and survival. The series has strong characters and good world building. The first three books are focused on Phedre and her adventures. The next three are focused on her adopted son. The last three are focused on Moirin…a half deity from the land of Alba. Though you probably could read each trilogy separate and be fine…I wouldn’t. They are richly connected and bring a world together worthy of diving into.

I have a eclectic taste in books as well as music. The reviews are likely to be for everything from Spicy romance to scary Horror. Young adult and so much more. So, the warning is here – I will be reviewing books that you might want to use caution in reading, and those appropriate for all. Use discretion when reading what I do. 😉

Anniversary!

So I got a notification from WordPress that I have been on here for 12 years. Wow. That seems like it has flown by. I have made quite a few changes in those twelve years. I have stumbled a lot. I am grateful for those who do read my rambling and hope to continue to grow.

Book Discussion

So The next topic in the group is formatting.

There are a lot of software that are used for formatting and some are good though expensive. I have been using Libre office for a while now.

First priority is to set the page and margins. All the books from Fae Corps Publishing (except for the children’s books ) are 6×9 and have 1″ margins all around. I do that for convenience purposes. The children’s books are 8×8 with the same margins.

After the page specs are set up you choose the font. Many publishers will go with Times New Roman. I personally don’t like it. I go with Book Antigua or Garamond. Both are easy to read and are still slightly different from the other publishers. I enjoy the idea that I am unique in my books. If you choose a different font be sure it is an easy to read one .

Once you have the basics you can put in the other details. this includes setting the pictures you want to use and setting the chapter settings and front and back matter.

I will focus on the front and back matter next week. The fun reason for using this program to do the formatting is that when it is done you can print it to pdf and export it to epub. you will have to fix the epub but it is a step forward. trust me when I say you will need both the epub and the pdf. I have also found having the doc format useful.

I will discuss the epub with you on another day.
