I just finished listening to Ann Leary’s new novel, The Foundling. It’s a gripping story based on the experience of the author’s grandmother. Set in 1927, it’s a story of abuse in facilities for mentally-deficient women and how that system was corrupted by corrupt people. It’s also a story of a friendship and the risks an individual was willing to take in order to save a childhood friend falsely “incarcerated” in such a facility.
